OneWell empowers independence with a tech-forward approach to IDD care

Seamless access to transportation helps reduce barriers


Transportation is one of the most common barriers for people with disabilities—and one of the most solvable with the help of Uber Health. “It’s easy for participants or their family members to request Uber rides, manage pickup/dropoff locations, and track rides in real time,” says Dağdeviren. “Uber even allows users to schedule rides in advance, which is really convenient when planning rides to school, work, medical appointments, or community events.”

Direct billing adds another layer of convenience


The simplicity and reliability of Uber's technology has helped transform daily life for many of OneWell’s participants. “It’s a convenient transportation option, but also a sense of freedom and dignity,” says Dağdeviren.

Eligible Uber rides are billed directly to OneWell, where they’re automatically linked to each participant’s insurance eligibility and authorizations. This ease of use not only promotes greater independence for participants, but it also reduces the burden on families, who can spend less time managing insurance reimbursements and more time focused on meeting their loved one’s needs.

Smart integrations put powerful insights at your fingertips


Behind the scenes, OneWell’s technology infrastructure and Uber integration keep things running smoothly. OneWell’s electronic health record system tracks service usage, manages benefit eligibility, and automates billing. With data from Uber, OneWell can generate accurate reports about rides, making it easier to maintain compliance while freeing staff to focus on what matters most: care.

Technology is helping OneWell scale care


Using Uber is just one of the ways OneWell is investing in technology to better serve its participants. The organization has built its own team of developers to create tools like voice-activated prompts and AI-powered cameras that help participants live safely and independently. For example, in-home devices remind participants what they need to pack for school, when to take medications, or what steps to take to get ready for bed—providing small but meaningful support that reduces caregiver strain and improves quality of life.
