- What is a health benefits card?
Benefits cards are pre-funded debit cards issued by health plans that are used only for eligible healthcare expenses. Eligible expenses may require insurance copayments and deductibles and are defined by your health plan. Examples may include prescription drugs and medical devices, as well as transportation, grocery items, and over-the-counter medications. Coverage will vary based on the plan.
Some health plans now allow you to use your health benefits card directly on Uber and Uber Eats for covered expenses, making it easier for you to go to and from a medical appointment or order grocery and over-the-counter (OTC) items.
- How do I know if I have a health benefits card?
Down Small Contact your health plan to ask what benefits are available to you and for help obtaining or setting up your health benefits card.
- Can I use my benefits card on Uber?
Down Small Yes, starting in 2024, if you’re part of a participating plan, you can order store-to-door delivery with Uber Eats. That means you can get grocery and/or over-the-counter items delivered from participating store locations within the Uber Eats network.
Some participating health plans also allow you to request rides with Uber. Please contact your plan’s customer service number on the back of your health insurance card for coverage details.
- What is Uber, and how do I get started?
Down Small Uber is a global technology platform for managing rides, meals, and deliveries. Uber’s technology helps match consumers looking for rides with independent providers of ride services. We also connect consumers and grocers so they can buy and sell groceries and other items, then we match them with independent delivery service providers. Read more about Uber’s technology offerings here.
- Can I use Uber on a desktop computer, or do I need the app?
Down Small Uber is designed to work on mobile devices and web browsers.
For grocery and over-the-counter items, you can shop on a desktop computer at ubereats.com or on the Uber Eats app. If you choose to use the mobile app, you can download Uber Eats from the App Store or Google Play.

For rides, you can request from a desktop computer at uber.com/go, but we recommend downloading the Uber app to your smartphone so you can easily request a return ride when you’re not at home. If you choose to use the mobile Uber app, download it from the App Store or Google Play.
Use the same account to sign in to Uber and Uber Eats.
- How do I request items from grocery stores, pharmacies, and convenience stores using my benefits card?
Down Small Step 1: Create an Uber account and add your card
- Download the Uber app (iOS, Android) and follow the steps to create an account (you’ll use the same account on Uber and Uber Eats). Have an account already? Make sure to update to the latest version of the app.
- If you prefer to use a desktop computer, you can also create an account on a web browser.
- To set up a payment method, choose Account at the bottom of the app, then Wallet, then Add payment method. If you have an S3 card (from Solutran), add your health benefits card by selecting S3 Health Benefits Card. Other types of health benefits cards can be added as a credit or debit card. Make sure to add a second payment method also, for any items or fees not covered by your plan.
Step 2: Shop for the items you love
With Uber Eats, you create an order with items from that single store. If you create multiple orders from different stores, each will have its own delivery.
- Select Grocery to start shopping. If you’re using the app, it will be in the bottom menu. If you’re using UberEats.com, it will be in the top menu.
- Search for specific items in the search bar, or choose a store to browse grocery and OTC products. To get a closer look at an item, select its image. Add items to the order by selecting the plus sign.
Step 3: Check out
Before you place your order, double-check:
- Your dropoff address
- Dropoff option (you can choose to have the delivery person hand your items to you or leave them at your location, or you can customize instructions)
- Delivery time
- Payment method (make sure your health benefits card is selected)
- Covered items (with some plans, you’ll get a breakdown of what your benefits card covers and what will be charged to your payment method)
Step 4: Track your order
You can follow along in the app (or online, if that’s where you placed your order) to find out when it will be delivered to you. What to expect:
- The store will accept the order
- The app will match you to a nearby courier (who will likely be in a car, on a bike, or on a scooter)
- The delivery person or someone at the store will do your shopping for you
- Once the delivery person is on their way, you’ll get their name and photo and be able to track their progress on the map
- How do I request rides on my benefits card?
Down Small Make sure your health benefits card is selected as your payment method before you request. Please contact your health plan’s customer service number on the back of your health insurance card for coverage details.
- What items does my benefits card cover?
Down Small Eligible items vary by plan. If your benefits card doesn’t cover an item, it will be charged to the secondary payment method on your account or you’ll be asked to remove the item from your order before you can continue.
Some plans allow you to see which items are eligible on the payment screen before you complete your order. Otherwise, proceed to the checkout to see what’s eligible. Restrictions apply to alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and other items. Please contact your health plan’s customer service number on the back of your health insurance card for coverage details.
- Does my card cover tips and fees?
Down Small Your benefits card will cover applicable fees if deemed eligible. Tax for covered items is charged to your benefits card; other fees may be charged to your secondary payment method if your benefits plan does not cover them. Coverage may vary by plan. Please contact your health plan’s customer service number on the back of your health insurance card for coverage details.
- 为什么有些商品不能使用福利卡支付?
Down Small Please visit your health plan’s website and contact your plan or card vendor’s support team for questions about your plan's eligibility.
- 如果有商品不能使用福利卡付款,会发生什么情况?
Down Small Depending on your health plan (and card provider), this experience may vary.
With some plans, item eligibility is determined by the benefits card provider on an item-by-item basis. If your card doesn’t cover an item, it’s charged to the secondary payment method on your Uber account.
With other plans, if there’s an ineligible item in your order such as alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and others, you’ll need to either switch the entire order to a new payment method or remove the item before you can check out.
- Am I able to use Uber Cash and my healthcare benefits card in the same order?
Down Small Right now, Uber Cash cannot be used as a secondary payment method in combination with your healthcare benefits card.
- Why am I not seeing the option to add a health benefits card?
Down Small - Why am I getting an error when I try to check out on Uber Eats on my S3 Health Benefits Card?
Down Small If you added your S3 Health Benefits Card to your Uber Wallet in early January 2024 as a standard credit or debit card and you’re getting an error when you attempt to check out on Uber Eats, you may need to delete your card and re-add it through the dedicated S3 Health Benefits Card option. The new S3 Health Benefits Card payment method option will be available to you once you have the latest version of the app.
To switch your card on Uber Eats
- Update your Uber Eats app through the App Store or Google Play to make sure it’s on the latest version
- Choose Account, then go to Wallet
- Select the S3 Health Benefits Card you previously added, then select Remove payment method
- Go back to Wallet and choose Add payment method
- Select S3 Health Benefits Card (if you’re not seeing this, make sure you’re using the latest version of the app)
- Enter your card information and follow the prompts
If you’re in the latest version of the app and still experiencing issues, please contact Uber Support.
- How do I know if I have an S3 Card?
Down Small S3 Health Benefits Cards will have an S3 logo on the front or back of the card. Look for a little cube that has an “S” on one side and a “3” on the other.
