Getting started is easy

Step 1

Sign up for Uber Health and add a payment method.

Create a plan setting budget limits and ride restrictions.

Step 2

Add members to your plan individually or via CSV upload.

When ready to send an invite to members, go to your plan, click into Uber app and click Enable.

Step 3

Rider gets an SMS invite, verifies with their birth date, and adds the benefit to their Uber app wallet.

Step 4

Rider requests on-demand or schedules rides against the policy using their benefit as a payment method, and can also track utilization directly in the app.

Step 5

Once the ride is complete, you can view and track utilization in the dashboard, which includes spend and destination information at the trip and rider level.

Frequently asked questions

  • Uber Health Self Booking lets Riders request their own rides using their organization funded benefits directly through the Uber app. Organizations are able to allocate funding and set booking controls within the Health Dashboard and invite Riders to self book in their personal Uber App.This reduces the need for coordinators to book rides through the Uber Health dashboard on behalf of Riders.

  • Leveraging Uber Health’s member management and plan tools, Organizations can set the following booking controls and enable Riders to self book:

    • Total dollar or trip allocation over a set period (daily, monthly, yearly, or a custom period).
    • Maximum fare per trip.
    • Maximum mileage per trip.
    • Approved or restricted locations (categories or addresses).
    • Allowed times of day and days of the week.
    • Vehicle types (for example, UberX).
  • In order to add their ride allowances to their Uber account, riders will first have to agree to a HIPAA authorization under which they will agree that certain rider, benefits, and trip information will not be protected by HIPAA; however, Uber will continue to handle the information according to its Privacy Notice. If the rider declines to agree to the HIPAA authorization, they may continue to coordinate their rides directly with their health organization.

  • Self Booking is enabled at the plan level by selecting the Uber App tab on the plan and clicking the option to enable. Organizations will have the ability to choose which plans are enabled for Self Booking. Once it’s turned on, current and future Riders enrolled in that plan will automatically receive an SMS invite with an access link. Note that if a Rider doesn't have the Uber app, they'll be directed to the App store to download it before accepting the invite link.

    • A mobile number is required for Riders to access Self Booking. Mobile numbers are uploaded when creating the Rider’s member profile, for more information you can visit this page: Member management and utilization tracking on Uber Health.

    • If an organization chooses to enable a self booking plan, an SMS will automatically be sent to all current plan members. When an organization adds future members to a self booking enabled plan, members will automatically receive the invite SMS.

    • Organizations can resend invitations to specific Riders or to all Riders on a plan.

    • Organizations can track invitation status in the Members tab.

  • Riders will:

    1. Click on the download the Uber app link from the SMS and create an account (if they don’t already have one).
    2. Click on the invite access link from the SMS.
    3. Accept a HIPAA authorization.
    4. Enter their name, date of birth, and member ID to verify their identity.
    5. After verification, they can view their payment methods and health
  • An error message appears. Riders can correct the information or contact their organization for help.

  • The phone number on the Rider’s profile must match the one linked to their Uber account. If it doesn’t, Riders should contact their organization to update it.

  • Yes. Verified Riders can view their organization funded benefits in their Uber Wallet and remove them at any time if needed.

  • Leveraging Uber Health’s member management tool, Riders can be added:

    1. Individually from the Members tab.
    2. In bulk using a CSV upload from the Members tab.
    3. In bulk via daily SFTP file transfers, setup requires configuration.

    To configure:

    • Go to the admin portal at business.uber.com.
    • Select the user icon in the top right corner and select Settings and then tap the Integrations Tab and select Health SFTP.

  • Organizations can remove Riders from a Self Booking-enabled plan by changing the end date to today or yesterday’s date through the member profile or in bulk via member management CSV upload or SFTP. Riders can also remove the benefits themselves in the Uber Wallet.

    1. Open the Uber App and enter a destination.
    2. Choose the organization benefit as the payment method and select an eligible ride type.
    3. Confirm the trip.
